Generic DDR users, where did you get your memory from?

Because i just want to see what the pricing and quality difference really is. I'm not going to overclock this system so i'm not going to spend x amount of dollars on high performance memory when just basic generic memory will serve me well.

If your not going to overclock, get some Micron based, or Kingston value ram, I think that's about the best prices you can get. I wouldn't personally buy Generic no name ram ever. It's worth the extra $10 to get the lifetime warranty from Kingston....hell really it's worth more than that... 🙂

I ordered generic DDR and I got Crucial Ram so I was pretty happy for that.
Newegg has some pretty decent prices for memory now.

How well is that known to o/c?

I think my PC2100 is holding me back some on my o/c.

I strongly urge you not to buy generic memory. You will regret it if you start to suffer from stability problems later on. Crucial is a high-quality memory supplier with reasonable prices.

I know crucial is high quality. I also have generic memory as well that has been working for over a year now. But the place i got it from no longer exist. So that's my whole reason for starting this thread. I know generic memory works because i am using it. But i want some more and just want to know where most people are getting it from now.

Just because the one stick of generic memory you bought works one year after purchase does not mean the majority of generic memory will work after the same length of time, or a little longer. It is simply a bad idea to sacrifice system stability for $10.

Sigh. You're not understanding. I have so many sticks of generic bred DDr memory that functions and you're trying to tell me other wise. This is being purchased in multiples, i'm working around a budget for someone. I'm not some newbie or something. Been building and dealing with PC's for 7 years now. So i know about generic verse higher density modules. My question is, where are you people getting their generic memory from? Not speculative replies thank you very much.

Alright, well if you're going to be so steadfast, then I at least suggest getting generic memory with chips produced by a good manufacturer. Infineon, Samsung, Micron are names to look for.

there is another meaning for generic,
any memory meets JEDEC standard is generic, supposed to work in any generic motherboard - i.e. DIY motherboard, unless the motherboard is picky.
so Crucial non-machine specificed model is generic, Kingston Valueram is always generic.
