Generic Adderall???????????????

It's actually not for me, it's for my daughter. She's having some focus/attention/discipline issues at school & we've worked for a few years now on this trying to straighten her out & made little progress so doc's goin' to a small dose of Adderall.

I'm pretty sure my insurance co., (Bluecross) prefers generic whenever possible, but tonight I noticed the prescription was $20 instead of $10 which means it isn't generic.

Maybe there is no generic Adderall yet??

That particular pharmacy may not have carried it. I guess it's too much to expect a pharmacy to tell you they don't have the generic version, too many people would just go elsewhere (or it might be illegal to go from one pharmacy to another for some reason).

Adderall XR is not available generically. Did you get capsules or tablets? Capsules = Adderall XR, Tablets = Adderall. Adderall is available generically. If you received the tablets, you may want to inquire if the MD wrote to not substitute on the Rx. If this is the case, ask the MD to not do that in the future.

Ya, it's Adderall XR.......(capsules).

Any difference between the two??? (i.e. XR = extended release?)

adderall is adderall. The main difference is how quickly it gets metabolized out of your body. The XR stands for extended release meaning that you would get benefits of the medication for a longer period of time. This is particularly helpful when you don't have to give a dose of medication during school (because of legal reasons it's sometimes hard to do with school regulations). The downside is that it stays in your system and some people actually have a hard time falling asleep at night.

If it was my daughter I would pony up the dough and keep with the XR because you get a "smoother" level of medication throughout the day. Hope that helps.

Agreed!!! I think I'll stick w/ the XR!

Thanks!

Ain't it awesome that the drug companies release a "plain" version of every drug, then when the generic is allowed, they release an "XL" version that's a little better for you to take, then when generic is available they release the "XR" version. Just too bad for you if you need the drug when only the plain, kick you in the pants with the full dosage and hope it lasts through the day version.
