The illogical timing of this sale is amazing. If there was ever a time when India could take advantage of Pakistan's instability, it is now (and make no mistake that it is against India that these planes would be used and not in the fight against terrorism). And yet, the Indian Govt. has been extremely responsible and has said that it wants stability in Pakistan first and foremost. So what exactly does it achieve? All this is going to do is fuel another useless arms race, which the region does not need now. The U.S. should take the $500 million and start building schools and colleges and create employment programs to wean young people away from madrasas which are the breeding grounds for the Taliban and Al-Qaeda types.

I just wish the American people would take more interest in the minutiae of foreign policy.
