I couldn't quite get this from the articles I have seen - is there even going to be AI skirmishing modes?

But yeah...C&C with no single player? That's far more ridiculous than BF3 adding single player. But hey, it's EA. What will come next? Dragon Age 3 will be an RTS?

Eh, they just want it to get the same attention Starcraft does. I think there's definitely room for more than one big, competitive [and modern] RTS.

I bet they do, but I have a hard time believing EA can do e-sports right. This has flunk written all over it.

Maybe I am wrong but I am shocked that C&C Generals (including zero hour) did not get into the elite RTS category like starcraft and starcraft 2. That game was freakin awesome!

Also how the hell will they make a "fair" f2p C&C game?
Its bound to be pay2win....

But do you think it will be able to get any following?

I guess since its free then maybe. It has to be quality right out of the gate though, which will be hard for EA. Did they ever apologize for their plagiarized tanks?

I loved generals zero hour! Me and a friend would always play it. He would always be laser general and I'd be german I think, I love big tanks!

I rarely play RTS online pvp, I prefer against AI alone or with another.

I thought multiplayer-only was already expected. Didn't they announce this to be F2P a long time ago?

F2P is pretty much another way of saying "this will only be multiplayer". What was the last F2P game you guys played that had singleplayer?

(Not saying this whole thing isn't ridiculous, because it is. It will most definitely flunk.)

Best RTS ever. Anyway, I never got much into the single player anyway of any of the C&C games. Play a few missions then jumo over to multiplayer and never look back. Zero hour will never die in my mind. It was sick hard badass.

CnC Generals II is Cancelled.

http://www.commandandconquer.com/en/news/1380/a-new-future-for-command-conquer

"Part of being in a creative team is the understanding that not all of your choices are going to work out. In this case, we shifted the game away from campaign mode and built an economy-based, multiplayer experience. Your feedback from the alpha trial is clear: We are not making the game you want to play. That is why, after much difficult deliberation, we have decided to cease production of this version of the game. Although we deeply respect the great work done by our talented team, ultimately it’s about getting you the game you expect and deserve."

The developing team all got shit-canned too and the studio was closed by EA.

The forum post about the cancellation is Oct. 30 and the sites last update was Aug 20th. Not looking good for CnC nation. Even if EA decides to revive it, I imagine not for at least 2015.

Ea_Cire Saying Goodbye

31 October 2013 - 06:04 AM
Well,

where to start - I am actually very sad to see my favorite franchise being put to rest, especially that sudden and a game close to launching. Did we do everything right - Hell no! But we were a talented team that made a lot out of what we had. But with your help and those die-hard gamers within the studio, we were trying to influence and challenge more and more of those "given" mechanics - the status quo - to make a game that could wear the C&C badge with pride. The game wasn't there yet and it would have taken a few more month to get the basics to where they needed to be. Our future roadmap looked also much more promising - Crushing would have been added with the patch this monday together with the first part of our movement/pathfinding overhaul and we had announced Campaign Missions at GamesCom

But well, EA decided that they don't want to continue the project and there are many sides to the story of why exactly they decided to do so. I will not go into the details because i don't know all the pieces and the ones i know are not necessarily meant to be discussed on a public forum.

As most of you know, the whole team has been let go, including long-term C&C Veterans. Unfortunately i don't know what will happen to Command & Conquer. While i hope that the franchise will finally get a worthy new installment to positively overshadow C&C4 and the cancellation of this attempt, i don't think that it will happen any time soon.

I would like to thank our voluntary Moderator team, aka "Apoc's Army", as they busted their butts days and nights to keep this place a happy place. Even though they were a little bit hard on me sometimes when it came down to feedback - I will always remember the day when i told them that Generals 2 has been canceled and we are going to move to F2P - but they always showed the passion i so much love about this community. We have seen so many negatives in the last 10 years, but fans around the world came together and made fantastic maps, mods, videos, contests, art, tournaments and fansites. There is so much potential in this community and it makes me even more sad to think about what we could have been able to achieve if a new and good Command & Conquer game would have made it to the release line. Bottom line is THANK YOU for being a great Community (outside of the typical trolls you find everywhere in modern days).

You are dismissed, Commander/General!

Sincerly,
Eric

EA is going to bury this series. Not sure whom to blame. The direction of the game was going nowhere and everything was stale. In modern times and game play, no one wants to go harvest material and bring a swarm of armor across a 2D map.

Well it is sad to go, but I did not like the way it was going anyway, and not really fond of Generals in the first place.

It may not be bad for it to sleep for a few years and try again, as c&c4 was not that good either

Yeah, I did not agree with the direction they were headed and it looks like the head honcho's at EA agreed with it as well. My assumption is that whoever decided to change it to a Free 2 Play game (executive producer at EA) screwed a lot of things up. It was grossly mis managed from the neck up with bad direction and production decisions. Needless to say, I feel bad for all the developers who are now out of a job and income. 3 years of development changes and retooling likely cost EA a lot of money, time, and patience. This game is likely going to be shelved for a long time. The only hope is they sell the title rights off to some other publisher, but knowing EA, we're screwed. As oh well, old titles just need to be laid to rest.

if you think about it i think there have been more bad C&C games than good ones, or even worse, i think the years C&C was a good franchise are fewer than the years C&C spent being a dying franchise

i remember when i was a kid, maybe 15 years old, and a guy in a videogame store showed me the very first C&C and let me play the 1st mission there on the shop. I was mindblown by it, bought it instantly. besides Warcraft 2, C&C was the other RTS i couldnt stop playing. And i never played them online. The Orcas swarming, the Sam Sites screwing me. the Obelisks of light, damn i was always afraid of them with its range and how they could destroy a tank in 2 hits, the OMG cutscene graphics!

the last one i played was the 1st Generals, but i always liked the GDI / NOD universe

It's better that they cancelled this "multiplayer focused" C&C and not subject people to another SimCity mess.

I just now discovered this. I'm a little upset as I really miss C&C. I think i'll have to go back and play some zero hour.

Battlezone was so awesome. I miss that game, I might have to reinstall it and get my fix.
