do most colleges allow or not allow students to carry knives on campus? I not talking about crocedile dundee style machetes just little, very useful pocket knives. No i don't want it for protection, or to hurt people(as i know someone will probably suggest), just because i have a need to use one alot. Its kinda annoying that i can't have one at HS, but i can clearly see why they are not permitted there.

thanks,

i seriously dun think people care that much in college.
you're supposed to have matured enough to realise that the knife is dangerous and should only be used for practical purposes.

I knew a guy who did carry a knife around. Nothing ever happened to him..

dopcombo: that's what i'm hoping but with some of the stupid rules that we are subjected to daily, who knows.

No weapons of any kind are permitted in our residence halls. Swiss-Army knives or Leatherman tools are not considered weapons.

they really aren't weapons, they're tools. obviously you don't need to have ppl "packing heat" in the dorms though.

linh: define torch. I've got this image of you walking around with a big stick wrapped with kerosene-soaked rags.

I carry around a Smith & Wesson one-hand opening knife (3" blade) with me everywhere I go. I'd rather get a ticket than get jumped in the parking lot without a weapon

I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to bring a knife to school. I have always had my Swiss-Army knife on my keychain(even in high school). My lab partner brings a Leatherman to school...no problems at all. Heck, even one of my professors had a Leatherman.

Just use it responsibly, and everything should be fine.

I don't think something like that would be a problem, but different colleges have different policies. Best to ask a specific college you're looking into and make sure.

Azraele: your right its probly a good idea to ask. Maybe i'll go check out their website.

RC5Bri: using it responsibly is not a prob., i had knives since i was 8 or 9

bitch: I will not use it to defend myself, that could easily backfire or get my ass in jail. That's besides the fact that i'm not getting into that kinda situation.

ok i check the school's rules and i'm good up to 6 inches, which is not a problem. A six inch blade is completely unescessary unless you're cooking or doing yard-work.
