General Tso's Chicken

Rudee

Lifer
Just munching on some leftover General Tso's Chicken my fiance made for dinner yesterday. This recipe is the one she uses and it's the best General Tso's chicken I've ever tasted. You definitely want to try this recipe.

Mean Chef definately knows a thing or two around the kitchen. Rave reviews at least on the first page.

I'm gonna have to give that a try.

Is it just me or is the site kinda slow?

Thanks for the link. 🙂

My favorite General Tso's recipe is to pick up the phone. Gotta admit, that does look pretty good. I might give it a try with some extra pepper added. I like General Tso's on the spicy side.

It's strange.. in any chinese restaurant I've been to here in canada it's always General Tao's chicken (Tao, rhymes with how), yet in the states it's General Tso. It's like someone made a typo a long time ago and it just stuck.

I've never seen any General Tso's Chicken in any Chinese food restaurant (SoCal, NY, NJ, Las Vegas)

Needs some garlic.

Do they use garlic in Chinese food? I know they use it a lot in Indian food.

Also maybe some of that special redl Vietnamese hot sauce.

The only real Chinese food I had was this Chicken dish with skin...

They had two pieces one was dark meat the other was light meat and they had special sauces for each one. It wasn't all that great tho. Is 'real' Chinese food spicier than American Chinese food?

It's only on the menu at a few of the places I've been to around here, but every one of them will make it if you ask for it. One place calls it "Princess chicken" IIRC.

Fake Chinese Food

Who gives a $hit. It's about how it tastes, not who or where it was made.
One of my friends family is straight off the boat from China, he is first generation American.
They have cooked me "authentic" chinese food quite a few times, I'm not sure what cuisine type it was (I understand there are like 8 different types?), for the most part I wasn't a huge fan. They used a lot of fish that just tasted fishy, no real flavor except the sauces which were always very good.
If it wasn't fish it was a all vegetarian dish, which I have to eat about 6 lbs of to feel full.

I'm American, give me beef, pork and chicken!!!

well it depends where this food is comming from (cause as stated, there are lots of different regions)... traditionally the chinese people were poor.. so they really had to stretch out the meat that they could get their hands on by using vegetables... chicken and pork are the main meats that they use, cause they had a lot of those.. i don't know if they had a lot of beef or not.. i think real traditional chinese food isn't as strong tasting as american food is.. isnt' that always the case? americans like their food strong flavored.. nothing is wrong with that.. i like it strong flavored too.. i love the occassional panda express

real chinese food...well which region?

typical chinese food aren't spicy at all, unless you're talking about food from the Sichuan (Szechwan) provence, then yes, food from the region is typically more spicy.

Theres like no spices in that recipe

Look again dude: "5 dried chili pods". She's got some heat for sure.

YEah man that's a LOT of spice... I grew some Ceyenne chili pepper this past summer and I still have a bunch of dried pods. I put ONE of them in a stew for 4 people and it comes out hot!
