General Software Question

How can I make Open Office the default program for opening .doc files? I tried doing the 'Open With' then selecting the 'Always Open With' box but that only changed it for the specific file each time.

I changed the title so people didn't think it was a question specific to Open Office. Maybe that'll help.

Right click a doc file, get info>open with>select open office from dropdown>click change all

1) click once on the file in Finder
1a) navigate to file
2) choose File -> Get Info (or Apple+I)
3) select the application you want to open that file under "Open with"
4) click on [Change All...] to apply this globally

That software is actually pretty nice, as you can manage all of your default apps for just about everything. Really nicely organized. A bit daunting, but I like it.
