with my palm 850 pro, i use it a lot to tether internet to my laptop via bluetooth modem.

it works great, but it can be hard to keep the battery charged. it wont charge if i tether via wifi (it charges but the battery is being drained faster then its being filled). and its a pita to use usb because active sync has to connect successfully in order to provide full amperage to the phone.

so i use a wall wort thats rated at 1000ma... but i dont think my phone charges at more then 500ma becasue it doesnt seem to make much difference from any usb port.

and its not always that im using more juice then its drawing in, a lot of times its just the battery overheating and causing the charge to stop completely. the phone doesnt even pick up on it, it continues to charge but the battery simply drains. and fast.

i was just wondering if the newer smartphones still do this when heavily multitasking. because the treo i have doesnt suck as much juice as some of the new phones do, so i can only wonder.

i use wifi and usb tethering on my nexus one.

with wifi tethering, if i keep the screen off and am only using 1 computer, the phone will charge over USB. if multiple people are using the connection, it will sometimes drain slowly (10% an hour). using a wall wart, the phone stays at full charge no problem.

usually I just use USB tethering, and then share the connection from my laptop if needed. battery easily stays full in this scenario. USB tethering doesn't require any additional software on windows, it's completely plug and play.
