so I consider myself on the middle ground of pc building and hardware knowledge. My current system is as follows
Asus m5a97, AMD FX 8320, 8GB RAM, Radeon HD 7770 (upgrading to gtx 970), 500gb wd blue, and 120gb ssd. Running 8.1 pro
Anyways, I just put the SSD in my system and put windows 8.1 on it and that's all I have on it. When I had 7 running off my HDD my cpu cooler fan would run at an insanely fast speed and was completely audible (when using chrome) now with windows 8 and the ssd my fan is inaudible and my cpu even runs cooler. Surely the fact that I have an ssd didn't make that big of a change, did it?

Sounds to me like 8.1 just set your power settings to Power Saving instead of Performance.

I don't think that's the case, I had 8.1 for a short time a few months ago and I had changed my power settings on that particular install as well. But I guess I will try it when I get home. Thanks!
