How do you tell which are caused by software and which are hardware related? I remember reading somewhere that in general, a BSOD signified a hardware conflict, while just about anything else was software related. Is this correct?

There are some BSOD's that are caused by software I believe, but in general they are hardware related.

The majority of BSOD i have had were software realted, particually drivers. The classic nVidia BSOD on shutdown springs to mind, fixed with newer Dets.

The only BSOD's I got in Windows 2000 were related to a chipset incompatibility, so I guess that would be a hardware problem, right?
