General Protection Fault in Deus Ex... HELP!

Hello,

My brother is having problems in Deus Ex. Whenever he tries to enter a new area of the map (Level) he gets a general protection fault, sending him back to the windows desktop. It also happens if he dies and the game automatically loads the last saved game.

The place he is at is a Subway train releatively early in the game. Whenever he tries to enter the train, the game says "Saving" then "Loading" and then BOOM, back at the desktop with the General Protection Fault Dialog.

I don't think it is video hardware/driver related as the same thing happens when he runs it in software video mode as opposed to D3D mode. He is using a Matrox G200 with the latest drivers.

I tried installing the latest patch available, but that did not solve anything either. (As I understand it, the patch basically just adds Multiplayer support... maybe a few minor things.)

Any suggestions?

Attempt to re-install or upgrade to the latest Direct X. If this has already been done, then run the DXDIAG program to ensure that the drivers installed for the video card, sound card are all certified or atleast working..

When games begin to behave badly like this, there are SO many things that can be done, but it's just one small thing that NEEDS to be done to fix it..if re-installing the OS isn't a hassle, than that could be tried..preferablly keeping it as base as possible..Regards
