Ever since I can remember, I've had ear infections. Whenever I go to the doctor, they say "Yep, your ear is infected. Take this." Right now, I feel like I have a minor ear infection. I've also had a nagging sore throat (same side as ear infection) for several weeks. I think since I've had so many ear infections, I've learned to live with the pain.

Now I think it's time to do something. Should I go to a doctor first (never been to a general pract. in this city) and let him decide if I need to see a specialist OR should I just make an appointment with a specialist. My insurance allows me to go to a specialist w/out a referral.

Think of it this way: You don't have an acute ear infection. You have a chronic problem with recurring ear infections. This is something an ENT may be able to help you with...

Since your insurance allows it, no harm in having an EENT doctor look at it. Maybe you have congenitally small Eustachian tubes :p

Heh. I made an appointment with a specialist. Lucky for me, I get to wait 3 weeks (Apr2).

With a history of recurrent ear infections, it would be a good idea to see the ENT to figure out why this keeps happening.

That's actually pretty good.... it can be really hard to get an appointment with a specialist. It often takes months if you can get the doc to take on a new patient at all.
