Hey guys im trying to decide what route to go here. In general how good of oc is each of the core2 processors getting? Is e6300 almost getting as high as the e6400? Are the e6600 not getting any higher than the e6400 so your just basically paying $100 more for 2MB cache. Maybe the OC results of the e6600 aren't prevelent enough to judge that processor since not that many people have them. Im trying to decide on which model of the core2 i will eventually go with. I am building this system slowly. I already have 2GB of OCZ DDR2-800 and a 700w OCZ PSU. The rest of the parts i will part out from what i have. I will just need a core 2 proc and MB. I am thinking on waiting for nforce for the MB but we will see if we hear anything about them in the next month or so if not maybe i will just go with a gigabyte ds3.

Yeah, the E6300's seem to be going as high as the 6400's, if they're in the right hands. And we haven't seen all that many E6600's yet, so it's hard to say what kind of average they're gonna see.

edit: And you'll almost surely want an Intel chipset. nVidia has never made a good chipset for Intel, and they've tried.

but you would say the 6300 take more work to get a good oc or higher voltages?

For some reason E6600 and E6700 are extremely rare, even harder to get than X6800. I think it is all supply and demand and intel is giving those to dell, hp, gateway, and special customers like voodoo and apple.

I don't know, from what i've seen the 6400's seem to be getting higher than the 6300's and the 6600's higher than the 6400's. Of course there are exceptions but that is my general take on things.

Sorry no linky's to back up what I said, I don't have the time or patience to find 'em right now.

ppl keep saying that apple is gettin these processors sent to them and is one of the companys that is "hogging" them all...however apple is not using any of these processors yet in any of their computers...the mac pro is using the intel xeon woodcrest edition processor

Apple is making updates to the imac and macbook lines which will use core2 merom chips. Not sure what apple would have in mind for the core2 conroe, unless they have some sort of midrange tower in mind. I doubt it but that might help them break into the enthusiast market where the woodcrest machines are really too highend. Although apple is really selling a bargain for the base and middle mac pro lines. Try finding a dual proc woodcrest 2.66, 1gb ram, complete system with chasis and cooling and hd for $2600.

Just because they aren't selling them doesn't mean they aren't building them ;)
