Hi. Sorry if this feels a little off-topic, I just like peoples' opinions here more than at most other places... :D

I'm shopping around for a totally-not-fancy-and-new laptop (refurbished, older technology, etc.) so current reviews on the web aren't really relevant. I'm wondering about which brands are known to be pretty solid, durable, reliable, and lasting. Toshiba? HP? Compaq? IBM? Any others?

Thanks a ton.

I like Fujitsu and Toshiba. No first-hand knowledge about the Toshibas, but I know a couple of individuals who have Fujitsu notebooks and they handle pretty well. I've also personally handled a couple of the B-, C- and S-series models and they're pretty well built. Also, out of personal experience, stay away from Twinhead.

I have a 6 year old Dell Latitude XPi P133 that still works. I strongly recommend you stay away from Clevo/Sager, and Compaq. Compaq's support for their older laptops is sickening.
