I just built my own computer, and i plan on outfitting it with a wireless card of some sort. We have a cable modem, our router is a Linksys 2.4Ghz 54mbps Wireless-G.
My question is, do I need an (expensive) Linksys brand wireless card/usb prepheral? Can i use another (less expensive) type. I noticed ASUS has a wireless card/antennae at a store today, will that work?
Furthermore, does anyone with the same router as me have any reccomendations? My computer will be basically 14 feet above the wireless router, so I'm not too concerned about signal strength.
Thanks.

Hell, I bought a $10 refurb Trend Micro wifi card at Fry's, works great from long distances with my WRT54G. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes not.
