General Hardware becoming Tech Support?

It seems as though 90% of the threads in General Hardware are all tech support threads. I admit I do it myself as well, but only because GH get's more hardware then tech support. I feel that if the mods would lock/move all tech-support style threads in GH, Tech support would get more traffic. Maybe we also should move Technical Support up higher than 3rd to last in the forums listing.

I noticed that the description for GH includes the following:

And Technical support:


<< Need a little technical help? Got some good tips? This is the place. >>



Now I'm guessing that above clause from GH is what is allowing those threads to exist, but wouldn't Technical Support be a more fitting place?

As long as I can remember GH has always been the best place to go to get answers for technical issues.

I think it largely has to do with traffic.. many more people frequent the GH forums than the tech support forum and many people with hardware issues need answers fast. Its a bending of topics to some degree, but seems to have been accepted long ago. Some of our forums are so slow traffic wise that it may be a good idea to consolidate somewhat and create a more needed forum from one that is used by few.. IMHO

If that is the case why don't we drop the Technical Support forum & combine it with GH?

really? I could have swore we had a tech support forum, man for acting so smart sometimes you can be so stupid 😉 just kidding 😉 I picked up the sarcasum in your post 😛.

but GH has always been littered with posts in the "wrong" place.

I've been at these forums a while. I remember when the majority of tech support issues stayed in the tech support forum. I think people should be encouraged to post their problems in tech support, the GH forum just has too much crap getting posted in it lately.

That's a good point...It's Hardware issues (like which cpu is the fastest), not YOUR issues.

Thing is though that this 'reform' will never work without moderator support.

It seems like its been tech support for as long as Ive been here.
I just ignore GH completely. I pretty much only go to OT, HT and software.

i think it needs to be moved up from the bottom also
