I need to order a DVD drive for myself tomorrow. I'd like to get a Pioneer slot drive. Or if other brands offer slot drive, id be interested in those as well

Anyone know the exact transfer speed each x represents? So like the max a 16x or 10x could transfer at. And if i were interested in ripping divx and such, on my 1.5+ ghz tbird, would the speed of the drive come into play, or not? Would transferring large files from the drive really be the only time speed mattered?

I'm thinking about getting a SCSI drive, since i have a SCSI card already, but ive only seen SCSI DVD drives at 10x :\

Thanks ahead of time!

Pioneer makes slot DVDs, as well as AOpen. I have one of the Pioneer ones and they're pretty nice...not so sure about the AOpen drives.
