Hey folks, I picked up a GlobalWin CakII-38 recently for my XP 1600+ to replace the factory HSF that came in the boxed CPU.
It's a black label 60mm Delta 7200 RPM fan and of course, full copper heatsink.
My temperature @ stock was approx. 48-50 degrees Celcius idle, 52-54 under full load (w/ stock pink chewing gum thermal compound).
My temperature with the new HSF is approx. 40-42 degrees Celcius idle, 44-45 under full load (again using the stock chewing gum compound).
Ambient case temp stays right around 30 degrees constant.
I have one 120mm YSTech in the front for intake (3400 RPM) , and one 80mm Sunon in the back for exhaust.
All cables have been tied neatly away from all fans and the CPU to maximize airflow capablility.
The CPU has not been touched at all, I'm not interested in O/C'ing. (10.5 x 133 FSB)
My question is hopefully simple to answer.
I'd like to get some good Arctic Silver 3 to replace the pink chewing gum currently between the HS and CPU.
What thermal gains, if any, should I see (in terms of temperature drop), and is there any recommended method for removing the pink
gunk from my CPU and HS?

Thanks for any advice!

You should see at most only a decrease of a few degrees in temperature with AS3.

To remove the pink goop, use rubbing alcohol and a razor blade to scrape it off (CAREFULLY) from the CPU. Once it is pretty much completely clean, then apply a little dab of AS on the CPU core and use a razor blade or some other straight edge to smooth the AS out into a thin layer covering all of the core.

BTW, your room must be very hot for your Case Temp to be so high with what you describe to be good airflow in the case. I have never seen my Case Temp rise above 25 C, and that was with the heat cranked all the way.
