My wife has the opportunity to get a new notebook. We are likely to inherit this machine when the time comes, so I'm inclined to load it up. That said, the budget is not unlimited, and weight is an issue as she travels at least one week per month with it.

The minumum we are looking at is:

Centrino @ 1.7Ghz or more
1 gig RAM
60-80 HD
CDRW/DVD

Current contenders are Dell Inspiron 600m, 700m and 6000 but we are not stuck with Dell, her boss just likes them.

I would really like a combination of light, but full featured. We looked at the Panasonic subnotes, but they were just too small for comfortable typing.

Graphics are a minor priority, but one of the options is a X300 128Mb dedicated. How much better for minor gaming would that be than the GMA900?

Any name brand recommendations for thin and light would be appreciated.

I would go with the 6000. The 600M's keyboard sucks even though its a full sized (I think). My sister had one. As forthe 700M, I would assume the keyboard would suck also.

A Thinkpad might be a good choice. As far as Dells go, your best bet would probably be a Latitude D610.

We were looking at the D610, and I agree it would probably be the best Dell.

Now she's decided whe wants a widescreen though. Any contenders for widescreen 13-14" under or around 5 pounds? We saw a nice Sony Vaio, but I have a hard time with Sony's pricing compared to the alternatives.
