Saw the Geneforge Saga(1 through 5) on Steam, kind of a top down RPG. Looks old school style, even the one that came out in 2008.

Anyone have a thought on it/them?

1-4 were great. Long, detailed games, with a lot of character customization options. Similar to Fallout 1-2 in many ways.

The graphics on the earlier ones are unplayable (for me). The last one is ok - on par with fallout 2 - maybe a tad better. If you can deal with the graphics they might be enjoyable.

Mind you i'm not a graphic freak; I can still play bg2 and fallout 2 (thought I'm not as big as a fan of fallout 2 as others; but love bg2); but games much older than that begin to grate me. They just weren't design for larger monitors or higher pixel densities. They can be made to run (wide screen mods and such) but the charm suffers.

btw there are demos so you can judge for yourself prior to purchase.

They were almost as good as the Infinity Engine games but not quite. Personally I'd rather replay BG all the way through a few time over than do any of the Geneforge titles. They have a clunky interface by comparison.
But they are definitely good for folks who miss that style and cant find it any more.

If you go to the Spiderweb site you can download a long demo for the first game:
http://www.spidweb.com/

I only played a bit of it but it seemed decent, I just have too many other games in my unplayed pile right now.

They're very good 'old style' RPG's. I've mostly only played the first in the series, but they are all similar it seems.

A couple years ago I decided to finally get a Spiderweb game, and picked the Geneforge series - even on sale I spent about $80 for the games and pamphlets.

So I think it's a great bargain on Steam for $16, for people who like old RPG's.

Steam started selling Spiderweb Software games? I'm gonna laugh if they release Exile. :p As poor as that series was, it had entertainment value.
