hi, I"m an AMD newbie and was considering building an AMD system for my parents. But I have some questions. I was looking at the Abit NV7M board (cuz it's got nice built in functions for a decent price ) with an Athalon 950 t-bird. Now, my first question is this, the product description for the NV7M says it's a micro ATX form factor. Is that still gonna fit ok in an ATX case like the Enlight 7237/300? If not can you suggest a good case for it. Second question, the Athalon is a socket A, is that the same thing as a socket 462 chip? I was looking for a HSF combo for the chip and all the specs say "AMD Socket 462". I looked at like 5 diff HSF makers and none mention socket A. That's all for now, thanks,

hey, i just built a system this past weekend using that same board

1. yes, it will fit just fine in an ATX case
2. socket A and socket 462 are one in the same

btw, why not get a duron 1 GHz for around the same price?....it has the SSE extensions and it runs cooler

you'll love setting up that board....just run the installer that comes with the board, reboot, and you're done

EDIT: btw, in case you aren't buying your stuff from them, i'd go to Newegg for your stuff....get that Abit board (or even the Microstar nForce board) for $131, a retail Duron 1 GHz for $51, and two sticks of 128MB PC2100 DDR memory from Crucial for $52 each. that's my recommendation for your system, anyways

I agree about getting a 1ghz or faster Duron. If your feeling up to it you could even unlock it and lower the multiplier and have it run at 133mhz FSB.

LostHiWay....you can't change the multiplier on the Abit nForce board, so unlocking it won't do anything

if you want to overclock by changing the multiplier and using a 133 MHz bus, go with the Microstar nForce board from Newegg for only a few extra bucks
