Gelato is heaven

Just got back from Italy with a formed addiction to gelato (ice cream-type dessert). So many flavors, colors, so delicious. Anybody know who sells it or how to make it?

There's a gelato store here in Ann Arbor...it's called American Spoon. You should be able to buy gelato at any higher-end grocery store though (like Whole Foods).

Specialty shops? A local Italian restaurant used to sell it, but they gave it up and sold that part of their storefront to Rita's. I guess when you're charging $4 for a small dish, you don't make much money.

Be careful, most water ice joints are selling something with a similar name (some call it gelato, some call it gelati) which, which very good, is water ice mixed with soft serve and is not what you are looking for.

Oh man, I was in Italy a few years back (in 2000 IIRC) and I must've blown at least 5,000 liras on it daily. It's so good, but I haven't found anything that compares to it here in Canada. I especially liked the fruit flavoured ones... yum!

Yeah, after I went to Italy, I came back addicted. There are a few specialty shops, or if you live in Las Vegas, the Bellagio has a good gelateria in their shopping court area.

Doesn't Rita's Italian Ice sell that stuff? It's pretty good.

They sell Gelati, which is very good but not the same.

I actually just had a gelati (cherry!) from Rita's in Jacksonville over the past weekend. Yum.
