Higher end Geil is supposed to be good memory. As long as you get them from a reputable vendor (i.e. NewEgg) you will have no problems returning it if it doesn't work at the rated speeds.
I'm using 4 sticks of Geil PC4200 in an Abit IC7 Max3.
No issues at all. I've ran memtest in loops and never had an error.
One thing though the ram I have will not run CAS2 at any speed which includes underclocked.
It's rated at 2.5 4,7,4 and it runs perfect at a 250 FSB.
I have no complaints at all
Geil is great cheap memory for a P4-based system, but it very rarely works correctly at any frequency even close to what it's rated for with an nForce2 mobo. If you have any nForce2 board, I would say don't get it. If you have anything else, including a non-nForce2 socket A, it should work just fine.
I have an NForce2 motherboard (Shuttle AN35N-Ultra) and two sticks of Geil PC3500 (NOT the 'Golden Dragon', the 'Ultra' PC3500). It works just fine at CL2 at DDR400 and below, although not so much when overclocked (although it comes close -- it's rated for 2.5-3-3-6, but I can only get 2.5-4-4-8). I would not recommend it for overclocking, but it's fine for normal use, and I personally have had no issues with it on my NForce2 board.
They're the same chips, as far as I can tell, as the 'Ultra' PC3200 kit (which is rated CL2 at DDR400), except that this stuff is rated CL2.5 at DDR433 (and was presumably speed-binned a bit better and should give more overclocking headroom).
