GeIL DDR2-800+ Ultra

I'm not going to overclock, but someone told me that Crucial is tried and true as far as D9GMH chips are concerned, and that they run 3-3-3-8 just fine.

What's this D9 chip stuff all about, a newer chip?

So as far as a OC on the ram is concerned, all I'd do then with this Crucial Ballistix is set it from 4-4-4-12 to 3-3-3-8 for some tighter timings.

One other thing:

I'm thinking about getting the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R (P35 board) over the GA-P35C-DS3R, with DDR3 support, because maybe buying into a DDR3 for the future is a bit overkill at the moment, and I'll save a few pennies anyways, hehe.

BUT, this board also can take PC2-8500. Would I see any real gaming performance difference between PC2-6400 and 8500?

THANKS

bump, let's HEAR something PLEASE, sheesh 😉

Where's all the Ram junkies, when ya need them, LOL

Buy nothing else than G.Skill HZ. They use Micron D9GMH and right now 2GB of DDR2-800 is about $120 with no rebates. Best deal around. They can do DDR2-800 3-3-3-8 with no trouble at 2.2v and 2.2v can also get you DDR2-1000 at 4-4-4-12.

Crucial uses D9GMH as well, but they cost more than the G.Skill. Mushkin is overpriced for no reason.

The D9GMH/D9GKX IC is made by Micron and is probably one of the best ICs for DDR2 memory that handles voltage well, and will overclock beyong it's rated specs very easily.

For gaming your memory doesn't play a pivital role in your FPS. Going from DDR2-800 to DDR2-1066 won't net a noticable performance gain. Maybe 1-2 FPS or so, but it depends on the game.
