We decided to rip the ram spreaders off the Geil memory...
While I appreciate the effort, that review is from almost a year and a half ago (01/08/02). An eternity in the tech world. I can find several reviews within the last 6 months that say otherwise. Maybe they've learned a few things since January 2002. Who knows...other than the ones who use it now and claim it runs well, without over-volting it.

Any Geil users in this thread that must over-volt it to get stability?

I'm considering some of this (2nd down, $70), but here's the description:
GeIL DDR RAM 512MB PC-3200 Value 400Hz Ultra- CAS 2.5, 1T CommandGL5123200B Value. DDR400, CAS 2.5, 184 Pin Dimm, 6-3-3 2T Timings,6 Layer PCB, Aluminum Heat Spreader, bulk pkg - Lifetime Warranty. Model#: GL512PC3200B

I assume that I'll get what I pay for here? The last stuff I got was this, and it was less than what I paid for. Turns out, the SPD sets it to CAS 3.0 at 200MHz (if you set it to CAS2.5 manually, it will run at that speed though), and the AIDI32 says that it is PC2700. I've left an appropriate rating of them at Resellerratings. I might look into filing a complaint with the BBB as well (they cancelled an order of mine after I..."casually" mentioned this problem; guess I got them pissed or something😀).

Since it is Newegg, I assume I'd be safe in knowing that I'll be getting real PC3200 RAM.

With Newegg you're safe. Mistakes have been will be made, but Newegg has always been real good at making things right for the customer.

from my experience with geil ram is this i bought pc3200 dual channel kit on a soltek nforce2 board and it runs @ 200 fsb 2-6-3-3 i get 3070-3078 in sisoft sandra a little over 17000 in 3dmarks 2001 above 5600 in 3dmarks. i also tried the golden dragon pc3500 they have to run @ 2-8-4-4 but in sisoft sandra i get 3040-3050 so its not much slower. According to the www.geil.com.tw website there is a problem with geil memory and the nforce 2 chipset they have to run at the slower settings in dual channel mode
