Geil Customer Service == Crap;

Yeah, so I know most of you don't even consider Geil memory any longer. Usually now it's OCZ, Mushkin, Gskill, Team, Corsair, or Crucial.

But, for those of you that might still, I'd recommend you look elsewhere. I used to like their Golden Dragon Series, which didn't give me any troubles back in the day, so I started using Geil's regular value line for some builds since it had a good price. Well, a couple of those modules now are starting to crap out after less than two years. Lifetime warranty though, so no problem, right?

Wrong. Apparently, these guys don't answer their emails, and whenever I try to email their customer service or support, I get the wonderful mailer daemon returning my emails to me. I did have one address which appears to work and go to them, but after trying to email them for almost two weeks, I haven't gotten a single response.

I went to the Geil forums, only to find out that no Geil employees seem to post there. To add icing to the cake, a lot of posts there are of people complaining that they can't get any support or contact from Geil at all.

I called them up today, and the first thing I hear when dialing their corporate CA number is "Hello?" I was expecting something more along the lines of "Thank you for calling Geil USA," or something to that effect. I had to say "Hello? Is this Geil?" just to be sure I had the right number. So, I tell the lady on the phone that I've been trying to contact them via email for weeks trying to get some memory RMA'd, and she abruptly tells me to hold on. I'm put on hold for 5-10 minutes, before I get a new guy who I guess is from technical support.

Needless to say, I did manage to get an RMA from him, but he sounded rather unprofessional, as if he was just some temp in a small room writing down my information on a piece of paper. This company has some serious internal issues that they need to address. I'm not sure if any of you were aware, or surprised, but I just felt like sharing. I won't be buying anymore Geil memory for a while.

Thanks for the feedback. FWIW if you purchased Geil memory from Newegg you can RMA it directly to Newegg since you get a lifetime warranty direct from the egg. As we all know Newegg has the best RMA in the industry.

I didn't know you could RMA it directly back to Newegg. I thought Newegg only handled returns for a limited period, and I've had this module for about 1.5 years now. That's interesting, because I did get my memory from Newegg.

*Edit*
I went to the RMA page at Newegg and it said that the memory was past Newegg warranty of 1 year, and to contact the manufacturer.

*Edit*
On the positive side regarding the RMA, they didn't even ask for a serial number or receipt, even though I do have both.

It's been quite some time since I've looked at the fine details in their policy, but memory listed with a "lifetime warranty" at one time did come with a Newegg lifetime warranty. However I just read their "new" policy and it states.

Who provides the lifetime warranty coverage mentioned in some Newegg.com item descriptions?

If our site states that a product is supported by a "Lifetime Warranty", that product's warranty coverage is provided by the manufacturer of the product. However Newegg.com offers a return policy detailed here.

🙁
