GEICO quoted me HALF of what USAA quoted?

Both GEICO and Esurance quoted me literally HALF of what USAA wants.

EXACT same coverage too (as far as dollars of coverage)

Everyone talks about USAA like its AWESOME. I went through quite a lot of trouble to get it (had to get my grandfather who served a policy, then my mother a policy, then finally me)

The coverage is for me and my wife (we just got married, so we both have our own policies at the moment)

Hold your horses. GEICO has an introductory rate for new members to hook them in. When you renew, it'll go up.

Usaa is far better at handling claims and taking care of customers than Geico. That may or may not be worth more money but from what I've seen, usaa has never been known for rock bottom rates.

Well from the people I know that have it, they said he was always the cheapest.

Progressive was also cheaper

Funny, because every year so far that I've been with GEICO, my insurance rates have dropped. I've been with them for a long time now.

A few years ago, I hit a deer. Called them an hour later (10pm at night). The next morning, a tow truck came to our house, towed the vehicle away. 3 or 4 days later, the repairs were complete. New radiator, bumper, grill, quarter panel, antenna, and whatever else that damn thing took out. I couldn't possibly have gotten better service.

Love USAA as my bank, but you need to be a veteran or a spouse of one to get covered by USAA's insurance AFAIK. They quote from Liberty Mutual if you don't qualify, last I checked.

Er, no. My rates only ever spiked following an at-fault accident, and have been dropping after the fact for a good driving history. Been with Geico for about five years, never had any issues.

USAA was one of the places that based rates off of credit reports. Don't know if that's still true, but when my wife and I switched to them, it was.

I have Esurance, and while there are a lot of complaints(most before they were bought by Allstate), I haven't had a problem with them. I pay $85 a month for maxmium liability/comp/collision coverage with $100 deductible.

I hit a deer a deer going 70-75 miles per hour at 1am back in May. I was going out of country the next day. There was extensive damage, pretty much the entire front end was replaced(bumper, grill, hood, fenders, headlights, radiator, ac, fan assembly). Everything was taken car of by the bodyshop(not affiliated with esurance) and esurance.

I had no problems and they had quick turn around on my rental car reimbursement(less than 2 days I had the check in my hand).

Geico was always twice what my USAA was. I was curious and checked in on it before. USAA was always incredible service though. I don't think you could find a better company. never any weird hidden fees or some way to screw you over or make you go through hoops like other companies. I have all my banking, credit cards, car insurance, home insurance with them. Had two claims before and it went very smooth and easy.

lets see I had american family insurance before. Started off low then eventually kept going higher and higher and higher until it was about doubled. So they screw you.

Had dealt with Progressive before, some kid hit me. Progressive was a pain. Weren't even going to pay it if the kid didn't get back to them. Eventually months later he did and finally got it settled.

Had farmers before a long time ago and they would screw up the bill every single time it came it was a drastically different amount.

Had allstate, guy ran me off the road and I broke some other guys taillight trying to not get hit. I literally tapped him at 5mph. The guy claimed he had to see a chiropractor to get more money (what a douche). MY insurance agent just said....oh ok we'll pay it! Wasn't worth it to them to fight it or make the guy who ran me off the road pay it.

So yeah eventually I switched everything to USAA about 10 years ago (first had a credit card with them about 15 or more years ago). Had a tree fall on my property, they paid fast, got $6000. literally cost me $100 to fix myself. Also had a car wash scratch my car real bad. USAA paid to fix it no problem.

I also had some credit card fraud on my account. Thousands of dollars. On a SUNDAY NIGHT USAA calls me up. Tells me about it, removes it and it's all good. Never had to do anything else.

I'm telling you, it's worth every penny.

I qualify from my grand father

My experience with Gieco was not the same. Gieco never lowered my rates, I never even had an at fault accident while on them. They based my original rate on two accidents prior, and even after 3 years on Gieco(6 years since the last accident) they wouldn't substantially lower my rates. I went from $170 and mediocre coverage and $500 deductible, to $85 and to top notch coverage wtih $100 deductible. When I was shopping around, Gieco wouldn't go below $150 for the same amount of coverage(mediocre), where as I could get everyone else with max everything for $87-$120.

Gieco made a lot of money off of me. Esurance has lost a lot of money on me. I think I've roughly broke even(cost of premiums roughly equal to damage from deer) since I bought my car in 2009

Oh by the way you get substantial discounts if you get all USAA services. It's makes a huge difference. I'm talking all your different insurances getting cut in half or more.

For liability only coverage (I have an old car), Geico's price for half a year of coverage was less than what some companies wanted to charge me for one month. Same level of insurance.

Clean driving record, by the way (knock on wood).

So you're the person that hit Bambi?!?!?! D: :colbert:

Believe it or not, they calculated risk of "deer" accidents in Zip Codes/Counties too... so if you moved your insurance would drop if you switch to a new insurance company whom would recalculate your risk/rates...

Wait, which company did you call? Geico or USAA?

As a former auto insurance adjuster, if you ever end up filing a claim (particularly if there is another vehicle involved in the accident) you'll want USAA.

Geico was 30% cheaper than the next lowest option when I got quotes a handful of years ago. I moved about 1.5 years ago and they automatically lowered my premium by 20% when I changed my address.

About once a year, I get quotes from all the other companies and Geico is still 30%+ cheaper than everybody else for the same amount of coverage.

Can't go wrong with either USAA or Amica. They are historically the best two insurance companies to deal with.

Their prices on different prices vary from competitive to not competitive. At the moment, I have property insurance with both Amica and USAA and vehicle with GEICO. The discounts I could have received by going with one company wasn't substantial enough to warrant which is why I use all three.

When it comes to property, I would happily pay a premium if I had to with Amica/USAA b/c they are the best. I know with them they won't pull any shens as other major insurance companies have done in disasters.

thats not true!!

Yes it is. It's how they make their money.

All things remaining the same, the cheaper companies will gradually increase your rates. You just might not have 'all things remaining the same.'

Car insurance is the new long distance phone service. Swap companies twice a year to take advantage of better offers and make a valiant effort at avoiding anal rape.

That's why you see commercials that say "Geico customers save $500 when switching from Progressive" and commercials that say "Progressive customers save $500 when switching from Geico" (and you can use any company names there). Those statements can both be true.

Each company has different methods of rating customers. USAA customers are USAA customers because they got the lowest quote, and same for Geico customers. I was jazzed when I became eligible for USAA insurance and immediately contacted them for quotes because my father's car insurance dropped by 40% when he went with USAA. Turned out that for me, they were 30% higher on car insurance and 20% higher on homeowners than what I already had. But every couple years I get new quotes just in case.

You just have to shop around.

Well, 6 years with Geico, liabilty has decreased every year, and it was initially less than Amica when I switched. So clearly your analysis has some holes in it.

And things have more or less stayed the same, save that its 6 more years without an accident or ticket

Geico seems to make their money off of surcharges when you get into an accident or get caught speeding. I got caught twice speeding in an 18 month period while I lived in New York, and those bastards doubled my insurance premium. I switched to Progressive, and it got cut in half to a reasonable amount.

That said, my wife also saved 40% switching from Geico to Progressive when we got married, and she had a clean driving record. Go figure.
