Saw an ad from a local comp. store with two GF2 ti cards (cdn prices):

AOpen Geforce2 TI 64MB DDR $169.00
AOpen Geforce2 TI VX 64MB DDR TV out $148.00

What exactly is the difference between a Ti and Ti VX card? I'm thinking of building a budget system and these cards are in my budget.
Also, will there be significant advantage (with either of these) over a MX400 card?

Thx

not sure, but here's a link to it:

AOpen Geforce2 Ti VX

they also have this one that has OpenBios (i guess it allows you to overclock/set voltage when you boot up) and OpenGPU that monitors gpu temp and fan speed.. that's pretty cool to have. not sure if that's the 1st one you listed..

there is also another one that looks like the geforce2 ti vx version.. beats me.. same gpu core clock speed on all of them...

I can only presume AOpen's spec sheet containts a typo in reference to the Ti-VX, as the GeForce2 Ti VX runs at a reduced core clockspeed of 225, relative to the full GeForce2 Ti's 250MHz core clock.

Ok so would there be much performance difference between 250 and 225 MHz?

AzNmAnJLH, I'm thinking about GF3 but its still quite pricey where I live ($269).

Resist if u can!! Don't buy cards that are not fully DirectX8 compliant like the GeForce2 series or the GeForce4 MX. I was ready to hit the GeForce2Ti but I will wait till more money comes in my pocket and the GeForce 4 Ti4200 appears or go for a GeForce3 Ti200 even though it's 7-10% slower than the GeForce4 MX460.........

P.S: How will programmers produce better games if we buy such cards..???? Read Anand's review of the GeForce4 thoroughly....

EDIT: The geforce 3 Ti 200 is better than the Geforce 4 MX460

In Anand's review the GeForce3 Ti200 is a bit slower in QuakeIII and RTCW than the MX460 and slightly faster in the 3DMark plus Unreal Performance Test2002 (in maths they can be called equal or performing similar) which represents the future gaming performance and that is a very important additional reason for not choosing the MX460..... So I guess we agree at the bottom line....! :)

I think that it is slower in those games since the game isn't taking advantage of the Geforce 3's pixel shaders and DX 8 features. The only other reason the MX is faster is due to its larger bandwidth.
