All of Gainward?s FX PowerPack! products feature a radical new design of cooling system delivering maxi-mum performance and incredibly low noise levels. Owing to Gainward?s advanced R&D skills the maximum noise is reduced to only 7db, the same as a human heartbeat. Com-petetive products maximum noise levels can be rated as high as 70db the same level as a domestic vacuum cleaner.

Very interesting!!! Hmm unfortunately no pics, but they gotta be using something crazy, maybe TEC??? How do those Zalman fanless work? Maybe they're using one of those?

Definitely be keeping an eye on these, as it'll be less poo for the FanATics to fling ;)

Not a typo

:Q

But why 7db when you really don't need it to be any lower than 24?

I did read the article so i knew it wasn't a typo but still 7db is just insanly quiet and it must take a lot more effort to get it to 7 when most people would be very happy with the mid 20's.

probably some 4"x10" gold massive heatsink that requires 5 open PCI slots + a blowhole for fan input.

Wow, nice news. This may save the 5800 from being DOA. I'm interested to see what the cooling solution is.

I'll believe it when I see it. It sounds to good to be true...no pun intended.

That being said, I can't think of a cooling fan used for computing devices (case fan, vid card, processor, hard drive, etc) that only throws off 7db.

What's the price that's listed for it? I"m pretty sure that's not 649 pounds is it? Don't really know all of the monetary symbols.. :(

?649 (Thats Euros)
£449 (Thats Pounds)
Which is about $740 not cheap but thats using just straight forward exchange rate and i think the pound is quite strong against the dollar at the moment so it should be cheaper than that (not sure how much by, i suspect not a lot)

Hmm I listed 2 already, TEC, or something like this Zalman .

Edit: Those are similar prices to the Euro and Pound prices listed prior to the NDA being lifted. I'd expect similar prices in the US @ the announced MSRP of $399.

Interesting...I need one of those for my P4!! :D

Also, those prices for the Ultra include a firewire card and a sound card. I'm sure that there "no frills" model will be around $399

my biggest issue with the card seems to be fixed, not by nvidia which I find strange

I bet its a heatsink from Zalman, ZALMAN RULES:p

That's gotta be using some sort of passive cooling, like a really huge heatsink, or water cooling, or a peltier, or Vapochill, or LNE or something else...its simply impossible for it to be conventional air-cooling with a fan.

Well if it's using "some sort of passive cooling, like a really huge heatsink" wouldn't that be 0db ???

And if it's using "water cooling, or a peltier, or Vapochill" then it wouldn't be passive but definately could be 7db.

I disagree. Watercooling isn't possible; there isn't enough room around the card for a radiator. Vapochill has the same problems with too many parts taking up too much space. Peltiers... well, let's just look to an old article from good 'ol AT for the answer to that one:
This is exactly why Peltier coolers are not widely used, they simply generate too much heat and thus must be used with a very efficient heatsink and a powerful fan in order to remove the heat generated by the hot side of the TEC.
Kind of counterintuitive, don't you think?

I'm sure their cooler is all copper, probably uses some type of heat pipe, and they probably either worked with Zalman (Zalman does rule!) or at least "borrowed" their ideas.

Nothing has changed really. The interviews with nVidia staff stated all along that OEMs were free to use whatever cooling solutions they chose. I guess whoever built the reference cooler really goofed b/c its essentially caused a PR nightmare for nVidia. Regardless, if more OEMs put similar cooling solutions on their cards, I'd expect the FX to fare quite well in the open market, and maybe, just maybe...on AT as well ;)

First, I want to say that I will believe the 7dba solution when I see it, but even so, where is 75 watts of heat going to go ? Not into my case in addition to the 60 watts I already have (not counting the chipset), I don't want 3 more fans in my case. How are they going to get that heat outside ?? Thats what I want to know. Anyone ??
