I was over at hexus.net and spotted this Gainward GFFX with 7db cooler very interesting if its true, but I find it a bit hard to believe its more likely they just missed they just missed a few zeros off the end.
All of Gainward?s FX PowerPack! products feature a radical new design of cooling system delivering maxi-mum performance and incredibly low noise levels. Owing to Gainward?s advanced R&D skills the maximum noise is reduced to only 7db, the same as a human heartbeat. Com-petetive products maximum noise levels can be rated as high as 70db the same level as a domestic vacuum cleaner.

I'll believe it when I see it. It sounds to good to be true...no pun intended.
That being said, I can't think of a cooling fan used for computing devices (case fan, vid card, processor, hard drive, etc) that only throws off 7db.

Hmm I listed 2 already, TEC, or something like this Zalman .

Edit: Those are similar prices to the Euro and Pound prices listed prior to the NDA being lifted. I'd expect similar prices in the US @ the announced MSRP of $399.

Which is about $740 not cheap but thats using just straight forward exchange rate and i think the pound is quite strong against the dollar at the moment so it should be cheaper than that (not sure how much by, i suspect not a lot)

That's gotta be using some sort of passive cooling, like a really huge heatsink, or water cooling, or a peltier, or Vapochill, or LNE or something else...its simply impossible for it to be conventional air-cooling with a fan.
I disagree. Watercooling isn't possible; there isn't enough room around the card for a radiator. Vapochill has the same problems with too many parts taking up too much space. Peltiers... well, let's just look to an old article from good 'ol AT for the answer to that one:Originally posted by: thorin

Well if it's using "some sort of passive cooling, like a really huge heatsink" wouldn't that be 0db ???
And if it's using "water cooling, or a peltier, or Vapochill" then it wouldn't be passive but definately could be 7db.

Kind of counterintuitive, don't you think? This is exactly why Peltier coolers are not widely used, they simply generate too much heat and thus must be used with a very efficient heatsink and a powerful fan in order to remove the heat generated by the hot side of the TEC.

Hmmmm. How things can change so quickly. This definitely is worth watching.

First, I want to say that I will believe the 7dba solution when I see it, but even so, where is 75 watts of heat going to go ? Not into my case in addition to the 60 watts I already have (not counting the chipset), I don't want 3 more fans in my case. How are they going to get that heat outside ?? Thats what I want to know. Anyone ??
