GeForceFX 5600 Opinions/Thoughts and Non-Ultra?

Is there a non-ultra version of this card? I ask because I am looking at many but few mention ultra. I am just making sure I am getting the good version.

Second... opinions, thoughts etc. on this card overal and versus it's in-class competitors.

Third, what are all the DX9 compatible cards on the market?

Thanks.

I remember reading that when they switched micron processes the newer smaller chip was the ultra, and it of course ran ~25mhz faster. The old 5600 non-ultra eventually got dropped and wasn't made anymore. When that happened the new ultra 5600 eventually dropped the ultra part of the name because there was no longer the old non ultra version (ironically enough to simplify things) and became the new 5600 non ultra.

confussing isn't it.... good luck finding out which one is which!

P.S. I don't remember where I read that so I can't tell you how accurate that is, anything can be put on the internet, but then again that kind of thinking perfectly reminds me of the big shot suit mentality.

P.S. what is bump? and why are so many people adding threads with one odd word like that?

You can find a review of the new FX 5600 Ultra(flip chip version) which has 400/400mhz for core and memory here .

I think the ATi 9700NP is still the better choice, infact ATi have a very good range of models with the 9500 Pro(if you can still find them) & 9600 Pro,9700NP in the $200 and below bracket.

I've basically just decided to go with the 5600 because its low demand has made it quite inexpensive - $133 shipped for an Ultra model.

Bumping up the thread, so it stays near the top in hopes of more people seeing it and responding. Usually its nice to wait more than 30 Minutes though.

Back to the topic. I would spend the extra money on an ati card, i think the 9500 Pro/9600 pro and up will all beat the 5600.

he is correct, i just thought since this is such a fast moving forum.

anyhow... where could i get a 5600 for 133 shipped?

I dunno, but I'll sell you one of THESE for $170 and it will spank both a standard 5600 or a 5600 Ultra Rev. 1.0. 🙂

You may be able to get a Ti4200 for a good amount less than the FX5600. I saw one for $86 once...very tempting.

Benchmarks may actually favor the 4200 in many cases, so it's another product to consider.

The 5600 ultra for $133 on pricewatch is misleading, its a Gainward model of a regular FX5600 ... "Gainward FX PowerPack! Ultra/760 TV/DVI GeForce FX 5600 AGP 8X 128MB DDR w/TV-Out & DVI Retai". Gainward are notorious for having misleading product names, this is just a particularly bad instance of it.

While a 5600 Ultra at $130 would almost make sense and would definitely give nVidia an edge in the $100-$150 market, I doubt if anyone can find a sub-$150 5600U anytime soon.
