Ok i got this cheapo $80 card for a friend but its not set at the right settings for the mx460 GPU

This card is at 270 Core 400 Ram its sposed to be at 300/550 .... a lil expected from a card this cheap but still....
this is what the cards are all clocked at

Geforce4 mx420- 250/166
Geforce4 mx440- 270/400
Geforce4 mx460- 300/550

According to the chart my geforce4mx is running at the speed of a mx440.
My Question is ! will it run better then a mx440 card even though its core and ram are the same
will it overclock better because its a mx460 chip?
( Nvidia drivers pick it up as a mx460 in windows )
and its on the box that it is an mx460 so it is. anyway what do u guys think

 I'm afraid if the clocks are equal the perf is equal. An MX460 at 270/400 is identical to a MX440. I think you should send the card back for a replacement, there is no way that card should be sold as an MX460 and clocked at MX440 speeds. You are sure it's not Gainward labelling aren't you? For instance it could be called Gainward PlusPack MX-T460 64MB, and be a GF4MX440, it is rare but some manus still do it. There is a code which comes up when you switch the PC on that will tell you the card is a MX440 or MX460, there is a possibility someone flashed it with an MX460 BIOS, or modified the BIOS, which ever somewhere along the line someone is pulling the wool over your eyes as there is no way a true MX460 will be sold with MX440 clocks and therefore identical speed.

Its an Eagle Geforce4mx 460 card all over the box on the PCB ( card itself ) and they had 440mx versions and 420 also
i rang up the shop to ask them whats going on and they didnt know that the core and ram clocks where like that they havent used the cards yet ... but i think its just because its a cheap card i live in Australia and it cost me $168au for this thing~
where a brand name geforce4mx 460 like Leadteck MSI or Asus costs like $300 i wasnt expecting much oh well its not for me anywayz.

in US $$$ its about $80 ...

Hrm... Thats not a bad deal... though, I'd try to find a nice GF3Ti200, or Ti4200 for a little bit more (In the GF3's case, maybe less).

Not sure what to say, but your best bet is to return it to the company for an exchange of cards, or a refund.

I agree - try to find a GF3 Ti200 or GF4 Ti4200 for way more bang for your buck! GF3's shouldn't be too expensive now, either.

i knew the Price of the other cards and nothing came close to this thing the cheapest Geforce3 i could find was
$298 but thats still like $130 more then the Eagle geforce4mx460 at $168 almost get 2 of these things for the same price

Thanx for your reply guys but you went off the topic all i wanted to know was if this thing being a Geforce4mx460

clocked at 270core will the core go way past a 440mx cause its a 460?

 Well we never went off topic, you didn't stress that you weren't interested in RMA'ing the product which technically is certainly NOT an MX460, in the UK you are entitled to a full refund of purchase and any shipping costs incurred, and that's before you even begin about compensation (extreme but then they are comitting fraud IMHO).

:) So the price is about that of an MX420 which is still very good, but the faudulent MX460 badge is more than a little mis-leading, many users wouldn't have even noticed the clock discrepency. If you may want to RMA it then DON'T o/c it, you may find you don't have a leg to stand on. Some GF3TI200 users flashed their card with a TI500 BIOS in order to get the same clocks as the higher model (IIRC) but although you could try that I wouldn't rec it myself. I believe the GF4MX cards basicly use the same core and as such any MX440 speed core should hit MX460 speeds quite easily, and the same for the RAM ... but then o/c'ing an MX440 to MX460 does not make it an MX460 even though perf would be equal as an MX460 would go higher still and would be guaranteed to be 100% stable at MX460 speeds. I'm afraid you will have to treat your MX440 clocked MX460 as o/c'ing an MX440 card and as such use the usual o/c'ing precautions ... take small steps testing thoroughly at each setting for visual glitches or instability, when you find your limit then back off a couple of notches, even if you haven't yet reached MX460 speeds.

:( Jeez try to help a guy and he basicly says, 'hey man stop wasting my time I only wanted to know if this thing being a Geforce4mx460 clocked at 270core will the core go way past a 440mx cause its a 460'!

:) I've overclocked it from

270 Core and 400 Ram
to
340Core and 500 Ram

works fine got some better cooling on it though

OK About this card This card COSTS less then a MSI ASUS LEATECK Creative u name it all the brands
One of the other cheapo Brands ( ProLink )
have a Geforce4mx420 card that costs $176au thats about $88 US

This cards a 460mx ( at 440 Clock and ram speeds ) but it still costs about 10 less then one of the cheapest geforce4mx 420 cards around

The fact that its priced this low you would think theres something wrong with it ... and there is its clock is wrong and Ram is wrong but the price is the compensations ! im just a lil pissed i didnt get the 440mx and save another $15au :)

thankyou for your help im thinking about ringing the place i got the card from again and getting them to test the 440mx card to see whats its clock and ram are set at if its lower then what i have now i wont mind and ill just live with my purchase but if the clock and ram are the same im going to take action and demand they exchange my card for one thats clocked at the right settings or just get some money back and get a 440mx card

Because if its the case and the 440mx is clocked the same with ram and core then i payed an additional $15 for NOTHING

just for the name 460mx lol and thats not right !
