I run my Gainward ti4600 at 1280x1024 in portrait mode, two monitors....

Under Windows XP if I open a CMD.EXE prompt in a Window... make it about 60 lines long... I notice the scrolling is pretty slow. Just doing basic commands like "DIR"!

I previously had a Matrox G550 -- which isn't know for performance. I swear it was faster at some of the 2d operations like this. I notice a lot of tearing when I scroll CMD.EXE and Internet Explorer...

Just me? My Planar PV174 LCD's to blame?

Thanks.

well , Matrox makes FANTASTIC 2D cards...so i wouldn't be surprised if a GF4 still can't compete.

but i'd be very curious to hear about other people's 2D experiences...i mean, you'd *think* a GF4 would be great all-around....

I was running the G550 at same 1280x1024x32bit with dual monitors... so equal comparison.

I am on a Asus P4S333 mainboard, Sis645 chipset. I wonder how good the AGP support is in this chipset. I doubt there have been many with this combination (Geforce4 + SIS645 chipset)....

What driver revision are you using on the GF4?
nVidia's latest drivers have dramatically reduced 2D performance as much as 50% almost across the board.
Your issues seem a little too dinstinct to be merely caused by the lower 2D performance seen in the most recent nVidia drivers though, as 2D perofrmance is very seldom stressed in modern graphics cards.
