I think the Ti4200 will be the best bargain on the market when it comes in April. The one question on my mind is how far do you think we'll be able to overclock it? My best guess is that this is very much like the Ti200 where we will see a lot of good overclocking results...but then I might be wrong. Getting from 225 to 275 is a long way...but so is 175 to 225 and most of the Ti200s I've seen were able to overclock that far or even 240 for that matter.

The card seems like a corker. If I can get it for under £200 when it is shipped I will buy one (assuming no performance discrepancies). I have given up waiting for Matrox and I probably wont touch another ATi product with a 10 ft barge pole.

I dont' think that they will be greath overclockers when first out , cards will hawe3.8 or 4 ns and like the first ti200's out they will hawe poor overclocking . Once new bioses will apear and new revison and maybe better ram then we will talk about greath overclocking.
Must wait at least 4-5 monts for this .

From the preliminary stuff I've read, this will be the card to get. All the latest feautures for under $200. Can't beat that.

I need a new card right now and can't decide what to do. Every day I fight off the temptation to just order a GF3 Ti200.

I just built a new system w/ an nforce board and I'm using the built-in video right now. It works and all, but it's a shame to have my otherwise sweat system running on it.

I just know I'll be able to get a GF3 or 8500 cheaper once the GF4 are out, but then I'm gonna be tempted to just wait for the 4200 too. I don't know what to do.

I'm thinking I'm just gonna wait until I get my next game that wants a good video card (I'm playing Wiz8 right now, and that does fine on the GF2MX), and then get whatever looks attractive at that moment....

i am returning my g3 ti200 to BB sunday, and wait for 4200 to come out. it seems there is not any good games coming out anytime soon like unreal 2 or doom3, so i think i will go back to my geforce 256 playing CS.

TimisoaraKill,

I think it depends on the manufacturers decision on what type of RAM they're gonna put on the card. I do remember a manufacturer (can't remember..Leadtek?) put 5ns on their first batch of Ti200 boards.

Seeing that the Ti4200 will have exactly the same features as the other Tixxxx chips, I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually an underclocked GF4, but I could be wrong.

jfunk,

I strongly suggest you wait for the GF4. I mean it's $200...it's a sweet bargain!! It's faster than the Geforce3 Ti500!!

Here's my price performance ratio on the cards for those who aren't sure about buying a Geforce3 or wait for the Geforce4s to arrive in stores:

I combined the scores (in resolutions 1024 x 768, 1280 x 1024 and 1600 x 1200) obtained from Tom's Hardware (cuz Ti4200 was included). The scores I used in the formula was Giants (DX7), Aquanox (DX8), and Quake III (OpenGL) and I used the current retail prices.

Performance (avg. framerate), Price/Performance ratio (Lower is better)

Geforce3 Ti200 ($199) - 66.11, 3.01
Geforce3 Ti500 ($349) - 83.82, 4.16

Geforce4 Ti4200 ($199) - 87.19, 2.28
Geforce4 Ti4400 ($299) - 96.91, 3.09
Geforce4 Ti4600 ($399) - 106.02, 3.76

I didn't take into account of what the Geforce3s would cost if the Geforce4s arrive because there is no way of knowing how much of a price slash we'll see. From the chart, the Geforce4 Ti4200 definitely gets the crown, but it'll have to wait till April. Hope this helps! :)

I think it's another GF3 Ti200 basically, the GF3 Ti 200 came out at $199 as well, and now it's down to $150 so it should be very similar to the GF3 Ti 200's position
