geforce4 ti4200 8x vs. fx5700

My asus geforce4 ti4200 cooling system died and I had to send the card to be fixed under warranty; however, they (asus) sent me a geforce fx5700. My question is that I have seen some benchmarks and it looks like my old ti is still faster in couple benchmarks compared to my card. Can someone give me some more information? I am going to call Asus and demand my original card back, if not, I am going to ask them to send me 5800 perhaps 5900 to compensate for that. Has anyone dealt with asus RMA video card department?

Thanks

I dont know the diff between the ultra and the non ultra 5700, but i know the 5700 ultra is much faster then a gf4 ti4600

Ti 4200 and FX5700 have similar performance, so i think it's right. Besides the 5700 is DX9.

Not sure, exactly. I remember that when the 5600 Ultra and 9600 Pro replaced the TI4200 and 9500 Pro, respectively, people were pissed because the performance was often lower than the older products. With the refresh, i.e. 5700 Ultra and 9600XT, i think performance is roughly on par, although that's just an average, and in areas where high-end cards tend to do well, due to more pipelines or something, the 5700 might lag a bit, but not too bad overall. BTW, what kind of 4200 did you have? PNY? Cause I've had 2 of those bastards die on me, and my friend has had one die too. I think they royally screwed up their 4200 or something.

I, too, have had a PNY Ti4200 die, and when i took it out, the was a definate bulge to some of the capacitors. I can't necesarily blame PNY though, the mobo I had seemed to develop a taste for video cards. The PNY was it's first victim, then a Gf2 Ti, then it almost got a Radeon 7200, but I swapped motherboards before that happened. RMAed the PNY and now I have the 8x model. The way I see it, since they offer a Lifetime warrenty, it's their own fault if they build unreliable video cards.

and that sucks about the 4200. very nice video cards. My memory is pretty much what you found. Hope they give you a 5700 Ultra. (That would prolly be the best trade you're going to get from them.)

I had a Ti4200 replaced by Asus and also got the 5700 plain, (not LE or Ultra). The core overclocked like a mutha' and hit 545MHz, the ram was slow at 585MHz.

On the same system it was almost dead even with a Ti4600 at 300/700, reaching 95-100% of the Ti's performance in a variety of DX8 and DX9 games/benchmarks.

I do not over clock the video card, so I am not going to look at this aspect of it! Last time I tried to over clock, the card was so god damn slow!!! My only point of this thread is to see if I will be able to convince asus to send me a better card than 5700. There are benchmarks that clearly show that old geforce is better than 5700. Is it also only me who thinks that asus support sucks big time??? I have spent half an hour on the phone, and some rude lady picked up to just write down my info. I wonder if they ever call me back. I have also not received any answers when I inquired about a status of RMA couple weeks ago!!! Ridiculous!

the ti4200 fan I have learned was a complete failure. seems like many people's have failed. when mine died it may have been party responsibly for killing the rest of my computer but that is a topic for another day. thanks to someone's suggestion on this board, i now have an 80mm fan zip-tied onto the HS.

Because the Ti4200/4600 will not run with any DX9 optimizations and the 5950 will.

5000 series + DX9 = poor performance. Change the settings so the two are on equal footing and the 5950 will easily outpace the Ti4600.

The Ti4200-4600 should be faster with basic 3D operations, and without AA.

If you run older games which don't require newer features and if you don't use advanced texture filtering then the Ti will probably be faster. It can push more polygons with textures around, if that is all you do, then it looks pretty good.

Overall I think it is a reasonable trade, but there will be some applications that see the 5700 being slower, especially if you don't care for image quality.
