Geforce4 Softquadro performance increase in Max and Maya?

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone out there can point me to some performance numbers for 3DSMax or Maya for Geforce4 cards running softquadro or that have been resistor modified. I'm currently running a GF3 TI450 (oc'd ti200 gainward golden sample) with softquadro. The card is the equivalent to Quadro DCC, which got much better performance numbers than Geforce4 anything. But I have been unable to find benchmarks for modded/SQ'd GF4's.

I'd like to upgrade to GF4, but I don't want to lose my 3DS/Maya performance.

Anyone help?

I asked a while ago about doing the softquadro hack on my Ti4600, and i was told that there wouldn't be a big increase...

I use Max 5 mostly, btw.

If you do do it, pm me the results, i would like to see :)

Okay.... i tried the SoftQuadro hack just for kicks, and i have gotten no added benefits.... scenes don't seem to render faster... although, when working in perspective mode, it SEEMS more responsive, but that might just be my imagination..

Hope that helps..

Hi,

Hmm, well, the scenes wouldn't render any faster with a faster video card. The card only helps with the realtime viewports. I haven't found anything yet... But maybe you could try creating a large poly plane and pull up some hills in it, animate the camera in a simple fly over, and compare it in smooth shade mode with SQ on/off... I guess that's a lot of trouble unless you made a drive image/ghost first though.

I coulda swore it uses SOME video card when rendering scenes :).. if not, then why the differences when you benchmark 'em ;)

The guys who benchmark the 3D applications (in video card reviews) don't use render time for benchmarks. These cards don't accelerate rendering at all -- you could have an ancient 2mb PCI video card or a FireGL and the render time would be identical.
