Since I'm getting such mixed reactions to the geforce4 and the different versions, I thought I'd ask the best (that'd be you people). Is there a large enough difference between the GF4MX and the Ti4400/4600 versions of geforce4? I had always thought the mx series was more for the budget minded people. The "celeron" kind of graphics card. Am I wrong? Which would be the best for gaming?

And also, is the geforce4 that much better than the radeon 8500 (or is it better at all)?

the GF"4" MX is NOT a geforce 4. its not even a geforce 3. its a geforce2 MX (which i'm not convinced is even technically a GF2, i think its more a GF256) with more MHz, faster RAM, and a better memory controller. they call it a 4 for marketing purposes. its slower than a GF3, so you might as well get one of those over at hotdeals while the'yre still made.

The Radeon 8500 competes against the GF3 line and even then the Ti500 beats it in most benches. The GF4 creams the 8500. The new 8800 might be comparable to the lowest GF4 when it comes out, but time will tell. It's the R300 by ATI that will be in competition with the GF4 if it ever comes out, which I would expect it around fall or later.. so for now, GF4 is king of the hill.

Trust me, the GF4 MX440 blows donkey balls. I had the gf4 mx 440 and PROMPTLY returned it for a GF3 Ti200 which SPANKED the GF4 mx440 by a huge margin. Even my Radeon 64ddr vivo went neck and neck against the gf4 mx440. This card is the biggest marketing scam I ever heard of and Nvidia should be ashamed of themselves. Bastards! :)
