Hi there
Wondering if anyone can help i have an Asus A7V266 motherboard with 256 mb ram and a 2000 mhz AMD xp processor on windows me. Now when i built the system i installed a Geforce 4 mx440 graphics card, which worked fine for several months then for some unknown reason the other evening i kept getting a message pop up saying that my monitor will now go into power saving mode and it would. So i restarted my system and it does this every time after the post, but just before windows starts up and the only way i can get into windows is in safe mode. I thought the graphics card was playing up so i bought a new one, but this does exactly the same. However i tried a TNT 2 card in the same system and that works fine every time they both work of the same drivers so what has happened, could a motherboard setting have changed. any ideas would be gratefully received.

RMA

That was a very inteligent answer. It says geforce4 on the box so as far as i am concerned thats what it is. So what is my ti 4600 then i suppose thats something else in disguise. Well worth me joining this forum if i am going to get answers like that.

Welcome to AT first of all

Second of all have you tried your Mx440 in another computer to see if the card is the problem. If you can't I would try uninstalling the detonators, and the card, then rebooting, and re-installing the card and drivers. If you have the same problem with windows drivers, (not sure about ME), then I would say it's the card. If the TNT 2 is running fine, then I would def say your Mx440 may be the culpret.

Also check your power management settings, under the control panel, and make sure your windows isn't set to suspend when you boot.

Thanks for the reply Curtcold
Yes i have got it running in my other computer no problems at all, i have tried reinstalling the drivers and checked for suspend when boot all are ok. Its as if a setting has changed over night, but i dont know where.

Windows ME is wierd. That may be the problem. Might try to get the latest bios, and Via Drivers, hyperon's I think is what they are called. That might help you solve the problem. You should have an update utility on your motherboard CD from Asus, but you'll have to download the bios to your HD and then point the utility to that unzipped file, as Asus has changed their site, and the utilty will not auto download the updated bios. (It wouldn't for me about a month ago that is)

Get the latest hyperon's installed too, that might make a difference.

Other than that I'm all out of suggestions. Sorry :(

Official ME hater btw.
