Looking for a video card for my PIII 1ghz, 512mb PC133 file server/game server.
A friend of a friend has a GeForce 4 MX440 AGP slightly used. Is this a decent card? And what is a good price to purchase it for?

Would I be better off picking up a Radeon 7000 for $27 from newegg?

Thanks!

I believe its equal to a GF2.

Nothing wrong with the card.

It would probably be faster than the 7000 but i'm just taking a guess.

Well, depends on what you're using it for. If you're going ot use it just so you have a dedicated video card, just use whichever's cheaper.
I don't have any hard numbers, but I believe the MX 440 outperforms the Radeon 7000.

That ain't gonna be pretty, and it think it depends on your definition of run :p Especially since@low res&settings it will be CPU heavy and that is an old and fairly slow CPU by today's standards. I'd say you need to upgrade your whole rig if you plan to play UT2K4. I wouldn't pay more than $25 for a G4MX, and that's if it isn't the 64bit model because that version is substantially slower than the G4MX IGP on nF2 in dual channel.

i used to have a GF4 on my old system and it worked fine with UT2004 on medium settings. i could also play intensive games like Painkiller too also on medium settings. as for the radeon 7000, it is not that great fo a card, if you want to go ati, i suggest getting a 9550 for around 50-60.

Changed my mind, I wouldn't pay anything for a G4MX when you can find a GF3 for $30 or so in FS/FT or a ti4200 for $45- $50.

That the G4 or G4MX, because there is a huge difference ;)

That card will be fine in your PIII 1ghz, and on a 1900+ it played UT2004, WOW, etc
it should handle any game your 1ghz can handle
