I was thinking of taking the heat sink off my Leadtek Geforce4 Ti4400 and applying some AS3 to help with heat dissappation. Not planning to overclock soon but it might need it in a few months time.

Is this easy? Are there any special problems I might find? Is it really worth it? Why did the chicken cross the road? Would it help much in overclocking if i did so in the future?

i dunno if this will help, but for my pny geforce4, it was just held in by 2 of those.. plastic holders and it had some paste on it . no glue so it was easy to take off.

I installed a big fan on it :) .

If your Leadtek has a HS that's fasten on with thermal glue, it's not going to be a walk in the park.
* Stick in freezer for 30 minutes or more and then pop the HS off with a butter knife (without destroying the GPU or card).
* Clean all the old, hard, crusty glue off the GPU and HS (again, without destroying the GPU or card).
* Use some very small zip ties to fasten the HS back on the card after applying some ASIII. Small rubber washers or O-rings help keep pressure on the zip ties.
Copy & Paste to see > http://www.geocities.com/blain450/Zips.jpg The cone shaped thingies are washers for a faucet.

If your Leadtek HS is fastened with clips you're good to go!
* Remove, clean, apply ASIII, reinstall.

Simple as that? I dislike push pin things. Have them on my motherboard to keep my northbridge heatsink on and they were a royal pain to take off. Any ideas on how to take these off easier?

By the way Blain, do you come in a desktop version? You've saved my hair today.
