I have a geforce4 4400 that keeps locking up in win2k sp3. I am running the 30.82 drivers, but I have tried some of the newer det 40s, which seem to make it worse. I am running two monitors, my primary being a crt, and my secondary being a LCD with the DVI connection. The other hardware is an Athlon XP 2000, 256Mb of DDR2700, and a FIC KT400 Mobo. The motherboard and RAM are new, but I did a clean install. I had the problems with my older hardware, which was a gigabyte 7dxr running DDR 2100

The card seems to be getting good airflow, since it doesn't feel excessively hot when I play a game or something that taxes it. It doesn't always lock up during games either. Sometimes the machine will just lock when I'm doing normal windows things, like surfing the web or reading my email. Also, sometimes when I boot up for the first time in awhile (say, the machine was off overnight), the screen will come up all garbled. I then have to reset the machine (sometimes a few times) before I get normal video, almost like the card is cold and needs to warm up.

Any ideas?
thanks

Seems to me your computer is over heating. Check your mb configuration and your cpu.

Anyway, have you tried the Detonator drivers? They work fine with the GeForce series cards and garantee extra 20% in performance.

Regards.

According to Hmonitor, my mobo is running at 75F and my cpu is running at 95F. Everything (cpu heatsink, which is solid copper, northbridge, ram, video card) feels cool to the touch.

If is it overheating, how should I cool it down? In addition to the solid copper HS, I have two fans in the front, blowing toward the back, and then a fan in the back blowing out the case. There is also the PS fan that blows out the back.
