GeForce3 Ti200 with Celeron 450 ->overkill?

HI@all,

right now I'm using a Celeron 450MHz with a TNT. Newer Games such as RTCW do run very very bad. FPS from 6 to 20 only.
BEcause it's a hard time here to get a Pentium III Slot1 I thought about buying a new GeForce3 Ti200.
Will this solve my problems? Of course I know that then I also can't reach frames comparable to Athlon Systems,.... but will newer games be playable with framerates such like 60fps? I have the assumption, that my CPU is the biggest bottleneck for newer games, because I'm reaching the same framerates at RTCW no matter if I chose 32Bit or 16Bit color depth.
Hm, what should I do or what can i expect!

Thanx

it will actually be worse. your cpu is too weak and it cannot release the ti200's full potential. in most cases, the game will run slower.

I think games should run slightly faster. But then you're right. To get maximum performance you need a much faster CPU ( >1 GHz)

If games are CPU demanding then upgrading to Ti200 doesnt help much. But because of the hardware TnL, your games will be much better than now regardless.

But for games that are fill rate limiting, or you run at 1280/32, then the TI200 does help.

If you ARE going to upgrade the CPU soon then the Geforce3 would be a good buy for the future. However, for your current system a Geforce2 MX would be a much better purchase, as they were designed to run on systems between 400-700mhz nicely. I say find an MX and you'll be doing great.
