GeForce3 Ti200 Passive Cooling?

I'm having fun quieting my computer here and I've got a question... can my GeForce3 Ti200 run without that little fan? I've got pretty decent airflow (I think); the northbridge is running at 26C. Are there any good tests for the stability of the GPU or something I can try too? I'll underclock it if neccesary, and could use suggestions on a utility for changing its clock speeds.

Yeah, it should be able to be run passively cooled, providing of course you do have good airflow.

A nice heatsink like the Zalman one would be good, or a Socket 7 HS, because they are a lot bigger and provide a better surface area, for more contact with the ambient air.

Of course keep an eye on the temps, and if they seem to be getting a little hot, if you have a Zalman or Socket 7 HS, you can always add a fan to them, running at a low RPM to just give that extra little air movement :)

I wouldn't try it with the standard little HS tho ;)

Hmm ... I don't know if a gF3 will behave nicely without active cooling. I'd suggest undervolting the fan (running off 5V perhaps) as opposed to shutting it down entirely.

For stability testing, run a loop of 3DMark2001, and for underclocking use the nVidia driver set with the CoolBits registry hack.

I've got a passively cooled GF3 ti200, i believe that is a brown box MSI. ANyway the heatsink on the thing is HUGE and gets very warm after some game time. I suggest getting Socket 7 fan or a chipset fan and 7volting it. I do suggest you get some thermal epoxy if you go that route though, thermal pads wont hold on for long.
