I'd like your opinions on something:

I own a VisionTek GeForce 3 TI 200. I'm considering trading it in for a GeForce 4 that's under $250 if there's a large performance difference.

Do you think the GF4 MX460 will be better than the GF3 TI 200?

I figured this was more Highly Technical than a "general hardware" question. Not many people have the knowledge base to answer this one.

IMHO, you would get about the same boost as going from a GF DDR to a GF2 MX ie, jack all or slightly negative. When more modern games come out, maybe there will be a performance difference.

GF4 hits shelves this week.

I'm starting to possibly agree with Shalmanese. Someone betatested the GF4 MX440, and it tested slower than the GF3 TI200. I'm hoping the MX460 can do much better, though.

I'm considering keeping this card just because I can overclock it to the same level as a GF3 TI 500.

Hang on to your GF3. Or, sell it now and buy it back in a week :)

GF4 is little more than an overclocked (hmm, "faster") GF3. Sure, it's got some features added to it, but nothing near a new revolutionary core. You won't see any real-world benefit from upgrading (ok, a nice new box) ...atleast until the drivers mature. Things like AA are supposed to be improved, we'll see...

I work at CUSA, and I bought a replacement plan on it. My card and the new MX460 are both the same price, so I could trade mine in and get the GF4 for free. If the GF4 is going to be better later on, then that's great, but I want to make sure that it'll be AT LEAST as good as the GF3 TI200 right NOW.

I dont think It'll be as good as G3 Ti200, It got a vertex shader with limited functions compare to GeForce 3, and does not have a 2nd Vertex unit like GeForce 4 Ti, All GeForce 4 MX are just very high clocked Geforce 2 with Geforce 4 memory enhancing functions and a crippled Vertex Unit. It will be fast (equal or faster then GeForce 3 Ti200) in games with low Geometry and does not require a Vertex unit.. ie. all the games are out so far today. But Unreal2 and Doom 3 maybe another story....
