GeForce 3 blows the MX out of the water, especially overclocked. The GF3 has Direct X 8 support while the GF4 MX doesn't.

Stay away from the MX line from Nvidia. They are utter crap. If you wan't a cheap video card, go for either:

1. ATi Radeon 8500
2. Geforce 3 Ti200
4. Geforce 4 Ti4200
5. Radeon 9500 PRO
6. Sis Xabre 400

...In no particualr order...

An overclocked Ti200 is still the sweet spot for 98% of all users out there. The Ti500 would actually be the sweet spot if it still weren't for its ridiculous prices.

The GF4MX is decent if you're really strapped for cash and play a lot of games using the Quake3 engine. In that regard its even faster than a GF3 Ti200, but for almost everything else the GF3 Ti200 would be faster, and have more features.

WOW !! the GF4-Mx equals crap, huh ??

I just bought an MSI GF4-MX440 just the other to hold me over until my GF4-4400 comes back from PNY (which I just got back) and let me tell ya, the card
is a hell-of-a-buy for just $99.00.

I too thought that it would be a real piece of poop, but I had to get something so I got it and loaded it up and started playing UT at 1024x768x32 and it performed really well.

of course its no where in the ranks of a real GF4 but for a $99.00 you cant go wrong. also it came with all so of extra goodies and I think 3 full version
of some pretty good games.

The games are not new but since I don't have them I thought it was pretty cool. It came with NOLF, Sacrifice, Aquanox, and I think about 7 demos too. Plus
it came with quite a few utilities, and since I have a MSi mobo I kept it :)

I just wanted to say that I think it performs good enough for a back up board and I' here to tell you that it isn't that bad of a card. One more thing I also played MOHaa at 1024x768x16 and there were no sstttutters there either...

But that is only my little opinion....bottom line to me is its worth it !!

Well, its not so much a "bad" card as it is a card with one huge problem (aside from the name, that is): No DX8 support. For the same $99 you can buy a Radeon 8500LE which does support DX8 and will blow away the gF4MX.

The GF3 is faster and supports DX8.0/8.1 features at the hardware level.

No DX8 support...haha, I didnt say that its a primary gaming card but for $99.00 its pretty good and dont get me going on the Radeon cards and those
50 differant drivers made by everybody and they'er sister over at Rage3D.

So what games do you run that require DX8 ? I play all of the "good" FPS and hardcore combat sims and the card did well...

Most of the benchmarks show the gf4mx series performing pretty well, keeping up fairly well in the newest games. There's no dx8 support, but its been like a year since dx8 was released and what do we have, just morrowind and the water? :( I dunno, for a quick little pick me up i dont think its that bad, especially if you plan on upgrading in half a year again

have you used a radeon?

Yes... and the video output was much, much better than any GF3/4 card but it wouldnt work right with some of my games so after trying quite a few drivers
for it and not succedding I had to dump it :(
