Geforce2MX400 vs Geforce4MX420...diff??

I have a GF2 MX400 vivo in my home machine. My machine at work has a GF4 MX420. I could utilize the Video In function of my GF2 card for a project at work.

Now,as an example, I play "Rise of Nations" on my XP1700 KT400 512MB machine. With the GF2 at 1280x1024 32bit, I get 3-10FPS. Would I see any increase if I swapped the cards? GF2 for GF4?

If the GF4 MX400 (there is no GF4 MX400) is a MX440 then yes you will get a big fps increase over the GF2 MX400.

Yeah the MX (or MX400 wasn't a big diff) was the budget version and the GTS was the Pro version in the GF2 series, the GF4 MX440 is faster than the GTS so there will be a good increase.

Yeah, it'll be around 30-40% faster, depending on what games you're playing & the resolution, whether the 420 is SDR or DDR. It's not going to suddenly make "Rise of Nations" a joy to play unless it was just starving for video memory.

I would tend to disagree, the MX 420's with DDR SDRAM are stuck on a 64bit memory controller whereas the SDR SDRAM MX420's utilize a 128bit memory controller.
Same theoretical memory bandwidth, but the SDR is very slightly more bandwidth efficient.

The MX440/MX460 used a DDR 128bit memory controller though, and are vastly superior to any MX420.

In any case, the MX420 should perform roughly comparably to a GF2 GTS-V, quite a fair margain above the GF2 MX400.
