I have a Hercules Geforce 2mx, and am having some really odd problems. First off, My video card, network card, sound card, firewire card, and SCSI card are ALL listed as being on IRQ 11! Yet, there are no conflicts listed. The Geforce 2mx works fine.. except AGP texturing is listed as not available. I have removed all devices except for my Geforce 2 MX, and AGP texturing still does not work (however, it should be noted that USB host adapter was still using irq 11.. so still could be a conflict). Now this is a total-rebuild. I had this problem before, and started 100% from scratch. I have messed with every setting i know in the bios, turned off PNP os, tried configuring manualy, etc. When booting, it lists all devices on correct IRQ's (aka, not all are on 11), however windows 2000 changes them all to irq 11! Windows 98 runs fine. Can someone please advise me on what I can do to get windows 2000 to let me choose all my own irq's (it wont let me change now in windows 2000), and how to get AGP texturing working? Thanks Thrawn

win2k uses ACPI

this means it allows all those devices to share the same irq. every win2k install does that unless you disable ACPI, but that's usually asking for trouble if everything works ok.

If you go into device manager and choose properties for the ACPI controller, select your system as a "Standard pc" instead.
Upon rebooting, ACPI will be disabled , and irq's will be allocated correctly.
You will get a slight performance increase, but you will no longer have ATX soft-off functionality when you shut down.

Here we go again....a copy and paste from my other responses:

Windows 2000 has been installed in ACPI mode and that is how it assigns its plug and play resources. Most people have no problems, other people do have problems. Usually it's all assigned to IRQ9...supposedly it's used as a gateway to virtual IRQs above 15.

If you have no problems, I recommend you leaving the assignments alone.

Anyway, here is the article from Microsoft dealing with it.

If you want to manually assign IRQs, or just let Windows do it properly, you have to change the ACPI mode HAL to Standard PC HAL.

To do this, go into Device Manager, and look under Computer. It should say Advanced Configuration Power Interface PC. Change this to Standard PC by changing the driver. Then reboot. Hopefully it should come out OK.

You may lose the ability for Win2K to shut down properly by itself. If this is the case, you will need to disable the ACPI driver and install the APM driver. I recommend doing a reinstall for full system support.

If you need to reinstall, hit F5 while it is detecting all the devices right at the very beginning to manually select the Standard PC HAL. You may also need to turn ACPI off in the BIOS if you have that option.
