It crashes in 3dmark as well as any game with 3d graphics. After I couldn't fix it in 98 I installed xp and it did run 3dmark2001 but it had such a low score that I thought I should upgrade the default video and ide drivers with more recent. I got the crashes again after that. I think I had Ver 4.43 Via and 30.(somethng) Nvidia drivers.

I have a ABIT KT7A (no raid) with an overclocked Gainward GeForce 3, and I experienced symptoms similar to yours- very low scores or crashing during 3D Mark, but usually the system wouldn't even boot up at all, especially after i moved to XP.

I originally thought that the overclocked video card was causing stability problems, but i was never able to boot into anything but safe mode to verify it.

I had to finally just find the time to hunker down and do the obvious- flash the BIOS to the latest version, download all the windows XP updates, install the latest VIA 4-in-1s, and of course the latest Detonator...I just did this last week, so I'm using drivers that were current then.

Took a day and a half on my 56K, but it was well worth it, the games started running (flying!) the 3D marks went back up and the system is as stable as you can expect any Microsoft OS to be.

good luck, d.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your system, don't overclock anything and try using safe defaults in your BIOS.

I have heard that a lot of people have problems with that particular board.

Well I have the lastest bios in this board and it used to run like a champ with a radeon8500. I have also run 3dmark with the GTS on other boards with no problem. I was thinking it was a VIA drivers problem but I don't know what version drivers to try. Its an Elsa card so maybe I need Elsa drivers? It has VIVO as well.

All Abit KA7 (and KA7A) boards suffer from a hardware design error.
Check KA7 faq for more
info. Might be the cause or it might not.

I have the KA7 board and it does not work correctly with radeon 9700.
