i have a mobo...gigabyte 8irxp...that says ONLY 4x agp, or it will burn the chipset.

on the geforce2 mx400 box, it says 4x/2x, and in other places ive read, you can change it from 2x-4x with a jumper, but there is no jumper on the video card

i know this may be a stupid question, but i dont want to take a chance at burning my motherboard over something this stupid...thanks

Taken from the Anandtech forums where I ve posted the same question before upgrading to my ASUS P4T-E which also says "1.5v only" (I own a Radeon VE)

?The different "sizes" of AGP are the typical AGP1/2/4X and AGP Pro50/110.
The vast majority of cards are AGP 1/2/4X and will fit in either slot, and merely not take any advantage of the remaining pins in the AGP Pro slots which are there simply to provide more power to the graphics card if necessary.?

?The Radeon VE is a 1.5V AGP 4X card like every other video card nowadays. It will operate in any 1.5V only or 1.5/3.3 mixed AGP slot in AGP 1X/2X/4X.?

It's simple-It will definitely work trouble free like in my case right now...Go for it!!

I believe every GeForce card (certainly every card GeForce 2 and on) run at 1.5V so you're safe there. As for 4X, same thing: GF2 and up should work fine.

The Voodoo 5 (and possibly the Voodoo 4, although I think that one is ok) are two of the most common ones that don't work at 1.5V or AGP 4X. Any relatively modern ATI/Nvidia card will work fine.

Jiffylube1024 your right also the ATI expert 2000 will not work even though it is agp 4x slot compatible it is only a 3.3 volt card and will fry a 1.5 volts mobo .:)
