GeForce2 MX400 or RADEON 7000?

I don't know much about video cards, so I thought I'd ask the experts here. I'm building a basic system for my sister, and I'm wondering if one card is better than the other. It seems that the Radeon 7000 has a TV-out while the GeForce does not, but this isn't a big deal to us. Since they use the same type of RAM, I think the main thing I'm wondering about is which card has a better processor/engine on it.

MSI GeForce2 MX400 Video Card, 64MB DDR, 64-bit, 4X AGP, Model "MX400D-64"

GIGABYTE ATI RADEON 7000 64MB DDR TV-out

why not jus plug for a GF4 MX or A gf FX 5200, the 5200 should offer basic gaming and nvidia has really good 2d, its cheap too, well under £70

geforce 2 is bit old, and ati 7000 is even worse, tho the gf4 is basically a revised GF2

still i suggest the Gforce FX 5200 or even the ATI radeon 9200se

Neither card will run any current games, so I would choose the R7000 for its 2D output.

The GF2MX will have better 3D performance if you play games like Quake2 and maybe even Quake3.

Can't really go wrong with a GeForce4 MX... you can get em for $50 and they're fine for a non-enthusiast for light gaming... you can also get them with passive cooling for a totally silent video card which is a plus.

You obviously dont know how fast a gf2 mx400 is.

It can run Quake 3 at 1280X1024 at absolute max settings at well over 60fps. Although nothing spectacular, quake 3 is a piece of cake for that card.

I never said it couldn't run Quake3. ;)

Most people don't play Quake3 anymore though. Throw a modern game at that card and it will be crippled. It will run Doom3 like a slideshow at 640x480; the GF4MX barely makes the cut at that resolution.

I would say that those cards are both really only useful for 2D stuff in this day and age, that's why I suggested the R7000. GF2 cards traditionally had some of the worst 2D output of any graphics cards ever made.

When you said maybe quake 3, i thought you meant running it low settings and such. My mistake.

But yeah, im sure they could find a better deal on something else. On ebay you can get like a 9000 pro for pretty cheap, and it would own a gf2.
