My Hercules 3D Prophet geforce2 MX refuses to go beyond 640 x 480. I can change the color depth, but the resolution won't budge.

I just installed the newest detenator drivers, DirectX 7.0a, flashed my mobo bios, and nothing seems to help.

My system:
Soyo 7VCA with the VIA 694X chipset
celeron 366@550
192megs PC133
IBM 14gxp 7200
Hercules 3D Prophet II MX (duh 🙂
MX300
Generic modem and NIC.

I am back using my voodoo 3 2000 for now so I can still play games. I have a new processor coming in the mail later this week, and I would really like to get this card working by then. Any advice?

Sounds like your monitor is set to standard vga.

In the settings tab in display properties, go to advanced or where ever your monitor settings are, change to "Plug and Play monitor" or if its old one of the "Svga 1024*768" ones or similar

Yes, try changing your monitor type.
In my case, though, I had to go back from
my real monitor (Panasonic 17&quot😉 to
Standard VGA.

I wish that were the case.

I have my monitor set as Super VGA 1024x768 @ 75Hz.

It's a shame the voodoo4 4500 is so much slower than the geForce II MX. I realy wonder if this is some wierd incombatability issue with my motherboard or something.

Thanks.

That happened a while ago to me except I was using a voodoo banshee from Guillemot instead of a MX. It was a driver issue for me. I tried the references and then tried the Guillemot drivers and it worked. Don't remember which one worked but that was the problem for me.
